CHSW Scone Recipe

Here at Children’s Hospice South West, our hospice cooks make exceedingly good scones! Many of you will have a favourite, tried and tested recipe but we thought we would share ours just in case! Wonderfully easy so the children can join in too.

Ingredients

  • 450g (1lb) self-raising flour  (½ white and ½ wholemeal)
  • 100g (4oz) margarine
  • ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1½ tsp cream of tartar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Milk to mix
  • Sultanas (optional)

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl, adding enough milk to bind into a dough.
  2. Roll the dough to 1 inch thick. Cut out with a cutter into individual scone shapes and bake at 200°C for 7 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Place on a wire rack to cool.
  4. Cut each scone in half and pile high with lashings of clotted cream and strawberry jam.
  5. Enjoy!
