Annual Children’s Hospice South West Events
Granny Trek 2008 - A Huge Success!
Celebrating the first birthday of Charlton Farm couldn’t have been better when over 500 sponsored walkers arrived to help! Grannies and other family members took to the footpaths around Charlton Farm to raise much needed funds for Children’s Hospice South West and were rewarded with tea, cake and for the most part, glorious sunshine!
Several families staying at the hospice also joined in the fundraising efforts and enjoyed the stunning scenery of the bluebell woods in full colour.
Currently, a fantastic £35,000 has been raised at this year’s Granny Trek, and donations are still being received! This amount would pay for a specialised children’s nurse for a whole year!
The Rotary club of Bristol Severnside helped to organise the event and Granny Beryl, with canine colleagues Fritz and Rudy were on hand to congratulate walkers on their return.
Next years event will be held on 26th April and subsequently this event will always be on the last Sunday in April to celebrate Charlton Farm’s birthday!
If you are interested in receiving information on Granny Trek 2009 or would like to register please email grannytrek@chsw.org.uk or alternatively please contact your local community fundraiser on 01275 866600
London Marathon
We would like to thank all those runners and supporters who have taken part in the Flora London Marathon 2008. It was a fantastic day and a great achievement by our runners. Thank you so much for your continued support.
Each year Children's Hospice South West has 10 Golden Bonds for the Flora London Marathon. We allocate these bonds to 10 supporters who have agreed to raise a minimum of £1500 for CHSW.
As these places are highly sought after we do ask that anyone who is interested in taking one of our Golden Bond places first applies for a London Marathon place through the official ballot. If they are unsuccessful in the official ballot they can then apply for a CHSW Golden Bond place.
We are also looking for runners who have their own place in the 2009 London Marathon and would like to use their place to raise funds for CHSW.
We will provide runners with a fundraising pack, including charity literature and advice on various ways of collecting sponsorship monies. You will also be given a CHSW running vest or t-shirt. We will be organizing an informal gathering in London on the night before to which all our runners and their supporters are invited, and on the day itself we will cheer you on at mile 13.
If you would like to run for CHSW then please contact Ian Roome on 01271 325270 or by emailing events@chsw.org.uk

Children's Hospice South West announces a much-loved fundraising event returning in 2008: the BIG South West Walk, will be taking place on Saturday 14th June 2008
Stretching from Minehead to Poole and a staggering 630 miles long, wallking the South West Coastal Path in a single day isn't an option for any of us! But CHSW have divided the coastal path into 77 'bite-sized pieces' ranging in length and graded from easy to strenuous in the hope that CHSW fundraisers will walk the whole coastal path on the same day!
This year if you fancy like walking with others we are holding four flagship walks. These are:
Sand Point to Uphill (6 miles)
Barnstaple to Bideford (10.1 miles along the stunning Tarka Trail)
Join us on the new look Barnstaple Square at 10.30am for a warm up with James Chapple - presenter from Lantern FM. At 11am we will all set off on the Tarka Trail and take in some lovely views, before finishing at Bideford Quay. Stagecoach Devon have given all participants free travel back to Barnstaple.
Charlestown to Par (Polmear) 4.3 miles
Crmyll (for Plymouth) to Mount Batten Point (7.5 miles)
All the flagship walks will start at 11am.
