Bereavement

At CHSW we continue the relationship that we have made with our families, accompanying them on their child's life journey and continuing alongside them after their child's death.

Each hospice provides a special room, Starborn, this is a room where children can lie after their death. It allows for a private space for families to say their goodbyes. It can be used by both the families whose child has died in the hospice as well as those who have died at home or in hospital. At this time the members of the care team who have become their link to the hospice and their special friends during the course of their child's life are able to provide practical assistance and support in planning an individual celebration of their child's life, this assistance is offered not only to those staying at the hospice, but is also available to those who choose to stay at home at this time. We offer support and a listening ear for as long as each individual needs.

We continue to develop our service and in the past year a group to support Father's has been started. Father's are often isolated, unable to share their feelings following the death of their child. We offer them the opportunity to meet with others in similar circumstances and gain comfort in the knowledge that what they are feeling is not unique.

'Dove' at Little Bridge House and 'The Sanctuary' at Charlton Farm provide a space for our families, which can be used for a number of purposes including times of reflection, Baptism, Funerals, worship, prayer etc. There are resources and literature available which are linked to a wide range of faiths and beliefs.
