Welcome to Graeme's fundraising page
‘Welcome to our fundraising page for the Daisy Chain.'
As you may or may not be aware last May my brother, Ian and I went on a short bike ride from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Sunderland in Tyne and Wear in aid of Lupus UK. This was about 140 miles from coast to coast via some of the highest peaks in the Lake District and took us around 4 days through pretty much every type of weather the Lake District could conjure up. We raised just over £2000 in the end.
Well, this year we have been approached by a friend of mine and asked if we would consider something similar for a charity she is involved with. We weren’t planning on making this an annual event but this is what we have planned……
We’re going to take another coast to coast route this time north to south across the south west peninsula. The route starts in Ilfracombe and finishes in Plymouth, just over a hundred miles on plan. We plan on completing this in two days, starting on Saturday 26th June.
The Daisy Chain was set up to raise funds for Children’s Hospice South West by the parents of Daisy Elizabeth Warn. Daisy was born in July 2009 but sadly passed away 16 weeks later after being diagnosed with Type 1 Spinal Muscular Atrophy, an incurable neuromuscular condition causing weakness of the muscles. Daisy had odds of around one in one million of being born with this disorder.
The Daisy Chain has set itself the admirable target of raising £10,000 for CHSW. The organisation, in particular the Little Bridge Hospice, provided Daisy, her mum and dad and their families with invaluable support both emotionally, and medically, during her short life. You can see Daisy in the slideshow at the top of the page.
I really appreciate the time you have taken to read this and everyone involved would be very grateful for any donations you can make.
Thank you
Graeme & Ian Thompson
